Pear Coffee Cake

1-1/2 cups flour
1/3 cup cornmeal
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 cup margarine
3/4 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 pear, peeled and diced

Preheat oven to 425 F. Stir flour, cornmeal, baking powder, baking soda, and nutmeg in large bowl. In a smaller bowl, beat margarine, sugar, and eggs. Blend in buttermilk and vanilla. Add the diced pear. Add to flour mixture. Pour batter into greased and floured springform pan and spread evenly. Arrange 2 or 3 sliced pears over batter and sprinkle 2 teaspoons sugar and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon over pears. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
